Thirteen-year-old Deziray Anderson continues to impress judges with her remarkable crochet work. She won the Judges’ Choice Award at the Eureka County Fair, held this year Aug. 3-6, for her stunning eight-foot white, pink, and black dragon. She used over ten skeins of yarn and took over two months to complete. Her hard work earned her one of Eureka’s top prizes and more than $50 in award money.
A few weeks later, Deziray entered her dragon in the Elko County Fair, where she was again highly recognized. She received a first-place blue ribbon, two special recognition ribbons and the coveted Best of Show award, along with more than $100 in prize money.
These accomplishments are especially impressive considering Deziray has only been crocheting for a little over two years. Last year she entered her first dragon in the Eureka and Elko Fairs last year and won Best of Show then as well. Her talent and dedication continue to shine
Deziray loves to crochet and is planning on crocheting a bald eagle and a red, white, and blue blanket for next year’s fairs. She is already very proficient at this craft, but says that when she runs into problems when reading patterns, she can generally find out what she needs to do by finding instructional videos to help her.
Way to go, Deziray. Your talent, creativity, and patience have truly earned you the awards and recognition you deserve.
