In a massive homecoming upset, the 7th-grade class completely shocked the older students by claiming overall victory for the week. While the high school classes usually dominate the standings, the 7th graders proved that size and age don’t matter when it comes to true school spirit. The ultimate turning point came down to a thrilling moment: the 7th graders successfully found the hidden spirit stick.
Winning the spirit stick was no easy task. The school posted a complicated Greek mythology-themed riddle every single day of the week, sending students on a wild goose chase across the area.
The mystery kicked off on Monday, with Poseidon and Amphitrite taking the stick up King Garrison Road toward a secret spot under the “Blue Apex.” On Tuesday, Hades and Persephone snatched it away, moving it around Vandal Way and Sentinel to place it near “the green gate to the underworld,” overlooking the playground. By Wednesday, Hephaestus and Aphrodite took over, carrying it down the “loneliest road to the Gold road” to a calm, meditative spot. Finally, Thursday’s clue revealed that Hephaestus took advice from Zeus, headed south past Clementine’s, and slid the stick tightly under the belly of a secret “golden #28.”
While the older grades were still trying to decode the riddles, the 7th graders stayed focused and pieced the clues together day by day. The breakthrough came when 7th graders Jayton and Jolyn rushed over to Brown’s shop. There, they found the hidden prize tucked right underneath the belly of a wheelbarrow with a spray-painted #28. Finding the location before anyone else secured the wave of spirit points they needed to take home the crown and cement their place in school history.
