On a bright, full of hope September morning some 30 plus people gathered at the Eureka High School football field to say, “Stay One More Day.” In hopes to bring awareness to the scourge of suicide. The Walk For Hope was organized by Josie Hokenga of Eureka. Our community has had their fill of the tragedy of suicide over the years, but this year has seen it hit hard with young members of the community. The group that met early Saturday September 12th were family and friends in the community who are hopeful the event would bring awareness to anyone who needs to see that “Stay One More Day” message. And to: stay one more day. Josie relayed, “The Hope Walk was amazing! Thank you all for your help, your attendance, your open and caring hearts and your sense of community we demonstrated as we walked together today Please always remember, you are not alone, it can get better, and there are people ready and waiting to help you, it’s okay to ask We had just over 30 participants! Thank you all who came, and if you missed it but still wish to donate or receive resources, please reach out to me!” The Walk for Hope took a turn down the hill past the county pool, up Main Street past the fire house and returned back to the beginning by trudging up Ruby Hill. Every last one, even Linda Dempsy whos’ granddaughter Macie was lost to this scourge this year. Linda who thought she would never make it all the way, made the entire walk for hope.
